Possibly We Will Reach Haven, Heaven - a poetry workshop with Di Brandt
Poetry, like child's play, keeps faith with the dream of being fully alive, of freely interacting with the world, of loving and being loved. In this workshop, we will play with a range of imaginative approaches to accessing the dream realm of poetry, wherein we might envision ourselves becoming, at last, fully human.
Di Brandt has published numerous acclaimed and award-winning collections of poetry, including questions i asked my mother; Agnes in the sky; Jerusalem, beloved; Now You Care; and Walking to Mojacar. She teaches Canadian Literature and Creative Writing at Brandon University.
I Laughed So Hard I Peed My Pants - Wendy Brownlie
The pelvic floor muscles hold the great responsibility of supporting your internal organs, increasing satisfaction in your sex life, and preventing urinary and fecal leakage. These certainly are important muscles! Amazingly, most of us do absolutely nothing to ensure good health of these muscles, many do not even know they exist, and all too often we accept that a certain dysfunction is normal. "Oh sure I leak when I cough or laugh, but that's normal isn't it?". We will be learning about these muscles, their anatomy and function how do we recruit them, what other muscles work with them. You will learn about frequency and urgency and incontinence and what can be done about these problems. Do you refrain from laughing whole-heartedly? Do you cross your legs when you sneeze? Do you know the location of every washroom in your shopping radius? Do you use the washroom more than 7 to 9 times a day? Do you leak urine when you exercise? Do you often have a strong urge to pee? Do you race your children to the washroom? Have you altered any physical or social activity because of decreased control over your bladder? 2 out of 3 women today say yes to at least one of these questions.
I obtained my degree in physiotherapy from the University of Manitoba in 1981, and have practiced in Thunder Bay at the Children's Rehabilitation Hospital, the hospital in Brandon, and was co owner of Clinical Physiotherapy Services and 4 other private clinics for 20 years. In 2000 I started my own clinic called Wendy Brownlie Physiotherapy. I took special training in orthopedics and became interested in women's health when, guess what I couldn't jump up and down on the trampoline with my kids without first emptying my bladder! I took my initial training in treating pelvic floor problems in Vancouver in 1998 and have been working in this area ever since. It is my pleasure to provide you with an opportunity to talk about this often not talked about problem.
